ExpoFoodex was celebrated in Japan this year. Participants from Sonora, witnessed the interest of Eastern buyers in Mexican products.

Sonora entered the Japanese market by exporting the first container of pork
meat in 1978 after negotiations Sonora’s Union supported by the State’s Government. Years later, exports to Japan reached 10,000 tons per year in beef. The Free Trade Treaty between Mexico and Japan was announced in expoFoodex which created positive expectations for Sonora’s trade with Japan.

CENTER OF QUICK START-UP OF ENTERPRISES
Secretary of Economy of Sonora opened a center to help new business start operations. This center, concentrates the legal paperwork in one place. Service is provided in 571 areas of economical activity with a 24 hour reply. This office is installed to respond to micro, small and medium enterprises.
 
PUBLIC FUNDS

SECRETARY OF ECONOMY
Last February 27th, the agreement that states the Rules of Operations of fund assignation to support micro, small and medium enterprises was published. Funds are given to enterprises that have all the requirements, and are approved by a special committee.

AGROBUSINESS

PRODUCTION AND INDUSTRIALIZED NOPAL
Nopal is one of the products that has been recently cultivated in Bacum in the South of the State. 20ha. will be produced in two months. Family enterprises will be in charge of processing and distributing the product. A nopal dehydrator plant started operations in Empalme in the community of La Palma. Nopal will be processed to produce flour and will also be packaged for commercialization.

TECHNOLOGY IN YOUR KITCHEN

Cremería del yaqui, a region’s dairy product company launched in Sonora a new cap for its 1 gallon, and half gallon presentation. This new cap is designed to assure better conservation of milk and avoid spills inside the refrigerator.

 
TOURISM

AEROMEXICO'S NEW FLIGHT
From April 8 on, Aeromexico offers a new direct flight Puerto Vallarta-Hermosillo. This flight will operate Thursdays and Sundays, departure from Puerto Vallarta to Hermosillo at 09:25 arriving at 09:20 and departure from Hermosillo at 16:10 arriving to Puerto Vallarta at 20:00. During these dates, this flight will be a new option to enjoy vacations in Puerto Vallarta and to open a new route that brings visitors to Sonora.

BAHÍA DE BACOCHIBAMPO

Bacochibampo Navigation Operator lead by Eng. José Mora will begin operations in April in Bahía Bacochibampo offering marine services for 32 boats, as well as 80 spaces available in the dry marine. Restaurant and family spaces are available.
 
EDUCATION

NEW EDUCATION OPTION IN SONORA
The Durango Santander University is a new education option in Sonora, starting in April 2004, with Doctorate in Education. This institution started in 1992, and has 8 camps located in Durango, Zacatecas, Sinaloa, Chihuahua and now in Sonora. The majors offered are Publicity, Public Relations, E-Business, International Marketing. [www.uad.edu.mx].
 
COMERCE

The Secretary of Economy, in coordination with the United Nations Development Program, will begin the suppliers’ development program "contributing to articulate the Mexican Economy". This program, founded by Nafin and UNDP en 1988 tries to integrate the small and medium enterprise of Sonora as suppliers of large industries of the region through a system oriented to the integration of value-chains. The objective is to raise the competitiveness of the large enterprises and consolidate a net of efficient and high performance partners through information channels.

CAFEMANÍA
Café Combate offers a frequent client card, which gives points in every purchase in the authorized kiosks in Hermosillo. Points can be changed for promotional products, discounts, and other goodies. This card can be obtained by filling an applications in the selling points. Promotions are only valid in Café Combate’s 18 selling points in Hermosillo. April’s promotions are for kids.
